29 Aug Ronda’s Synchronicity
In some studies, it was shown that group dancing makes people to release endorphin when it was synchronized. Even simple movements such as raising hands and clapping can lead to the release of endorphin if they are synchronized.
A ronda, which is the collective body of all the people dancing on the floor, is essentially a dancing group. When a dancing couple feel synchronicity between them and the ronda which they are in, they will feel happy. For this effect, it is not needed that everyone does exactly the same movement at the same time. The music on the floor and the rotational speed of the ronda are the two most important references for synchronization, and if every couple of the ronda is in sync with the music and keeps up with the speed of the rotation of the ronda without collision problems, then the ronda is synchronized.
A synchronized ronda is a beautiful thing which can instill awe and happiness just by being in it.
If the synchronicity of the ronda is destroyed by out-of-sync couples, the ronda loses happiness-inducing power. Thus, more important than the presence of great danecrs in the ronda is the absence of the people who will destroy the oneness of it. Just one out-of-sync couple is often enough to break the synchronicity of the ronda in a small milonga (e.g. a couple who move like a lost hurricane).
Dancing at a milonga is being a part of a ronda, for which being harmonious with the other people in the ronda is more important than doing more. If you feel lost about how to dance in a ronda, start with keeping up with the rotation of the ronda. As you feel comfortable with moving with the ronda, add some things to your dance and try still keeping up with the ronda, which can be repeated.
