Upper Body and Lower Body

Upper Body and Lower Body

In tango dancing, the upper body and the lower body have different primary roles. In general, the upper body is used to convey marcas and as the vehicle of embrace, and the lower body is used to move and as the vehicle of expression.

Thus, if the upper body is to be used for expression, it should be done subtly, so that the embrace is not disturbed. When the lower body is used to express, it should not disturb the gentle embrace between the upper bodies. The lower bodies of a couple can be making a hurricane of energy, but the gentle embrace between their upper bodies should still be calm as the clear surface of a lake.

Be energetic with the lower body, and be gentle with the upper body.
